Description: # 1349, Native American Very Fine Vintage Navajo Whirling Logs Sand Painting Weaving, Attributed to Mary Long (1935-2000), Ca 1975, With native hand spun and commercial wool, aniline dyes.
Condition: In overall excellent condition. No holes. No bleeding. No fading. Selvedge with three small breaks; corner ties intact. No apparent restoration.

Provenance: Property of a New Mexican Collector
Mary Long was known as the premier weaver of Sand Painting Designs and this piece is an excellent example of her work. She was active in the 1940's-1990 and lived in the Four Corners area of the Navajo Reservation. She was the daughter of Lola Yazzie, sister of Lucy Farley. She won numerous awards and was published in a number of important publication over her career.
