Hopi Poly chrome Jar

662. Native American Hopi Poly chrome Jar, c.1960's-70's, clay, pigments of different colors with geometric bird and figure designs.

Condition: Has minor rubs, but other than this and a smoke cloud, it is in very good condition for its age and use. It is signed Nyla Nampeyo.

Size: 14" x 13". This is an extraordinary piece of history and a great piece for a serious collector.

Artist: Nyla Sahmie is of the Hopi Corn Clan and was born in 1954. She is of the Nampeyo family (fourth generation) and hails from Sichomovi Village, at First Mesa, Arizona. Her mother, Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo, and sisters are all very talented in their own right. Her cousins include other well known artists - like Les Namingha and others.

She and her sister, Jean, were invited to exhibit at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 2002, and her work can be found far and wide throughout the Southwest.

Nyla's pottery typically features traditional patterns of the Nampeyo family. Some of her favorite designs include migrations, double hummingbirds, and flowers.
